Acronyms and other strange combinations of letters

 - what do they stand for?
 

There are many places to find the meanings of various acronyms, abbreviations, and other words used in discussing prostate cancer. On this website, I have put the meaning of acronyms/definitions in sections where they are used. Here we provide links to some of the on-line resources and some new definitions that we are now using in our discussions of hrpca.

HDPC - high dose pulsed calcitriol (.5mcg/kg of body weight, one per week, day before having taxotere).

LATP - an attempt to define a 'treatment packet'.  In this case, L=leukine and A=accutane.

TDE - Transdermal Estrogen Patches. A source of estradiol. Useful as a 2nd line hormone therapy.

ASCO has a website at www.plwc.org. There is a four part series of pages explaining various terms. Cancer Terms to Know: Part I. Basic Oncology Terms;  Part II. Newly Diagnosed; Part III. The Prostate Cancer Research Institute has an excellent glossary. It is located at:

The USA National Institutes of Health website has an on-line medical encyclopedia as well as a dictionary that is very useful. It is located at:

The Phoenix5 website has a prostate cancer glossary with over 500 terms, including synonyms, acronyms and slang words. Go to

RadiologyInfo™ is the Public Information Web site developed and funded by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA). They have a glossary of terms located at:
